Our government would never abuse their power

Oh.

From California.

California State Senator Darrell Steinberg isn't happy that Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft, is trying to buy the Sacramento Kings to move them to Seattle.  In a world where the government had little power, the owner of the Kings would be free to sell his team, the prospective buyer would be free to purchase a team and move it, (both with the consent of the National Basketball Association, of course), and Senator Steinberg could lump it.

In our current world, however, Steinberg is engaging in intimidation tactics.  He has asked the Department of General Services to provide him with information on how much business the State of California does with Microsoft.

Will anyone argue with a straight face that this is not an abuse of government power?

That's really idiotic and an over-extension of government power. Definitely.
