The freedom to choose

America, it is often said, is about choices.  You have the freedom to make your own choices, for good or for ill.  The other side of that coin is that you have to live with the consequences of those choices.

Today I chose to make waffles with my Homelectrics Model 1703, built sometime in the '20s or '30s.

Of course, as with any choice, the act of choosing means that you have failed to choose something else.  It's an unavoidable law of nature.  The unchosen have to wait patiently, hoping they will be chosen in the future.

And the consequences of my choice?  Pleasant, I must say.
