From an actual conversation about Washington state Governor Jay Inslee's carbon tax plan:
Me: His own commission said it could cause gas prices to rise by $1.76 a gallon
Liberal: I don't know why people keep harping on that, he isn't going to do it
Me: He gave a speech last week where he said he was going ahead with his plan. Maybe people would stop harping on it if he would stop talking about doing it.
Liberal: You can always find someone who will disagree with any proposal
Me: But this was a commission appointed by him to study this specific issue, not just some random opposition
Liberal: Just because a couple commissioners disagree doesn't make it a bad plan
Me: These were the findings of the majority of the commission, not just a couple commissioners
Time to go back to work so off we go, end of discussion. The problem is that this is a guy I like whose opinion in many things I respect. Yet he is so blinded by his partisanship that he will say ridiculous things to defend his position.

The biggest difference with liberals and conservatives, and my biggest problem with liberals is this:
With liberals you always end up subsidizing someone else's choices.
With conservatives you only have to support your own.
In theory, David. In reality you just end up subsidizing a slightly smaller set of different choices. I am a libertarian and an anarcho-capitalist and I agree with you that you shouldn't have to subsidize anyone else's choices.
