defiant of authority, disobedient to orders

Have we really fallen so far that the people are subject to the elected?

I thought the purpose of a representative government was to represent us.  Apparently some of them now believe that the purpose of government is to be in authority and to issue orders.

Jay Inslee, Governor of Washington who, for the record, I believe has done an OK job with the coronavirus response (when he wasn't bashing the federal government but that's his normal MO)

From The Hill:
Washington governor: Trump urges 'insubordination' and 'illegal activity' by supporting protesters
Insubordination: defiant of authority, disobedient to orders

So we are now subjects of their authority and their orders.  We are, to put it plainly, subjects.  We are not, apparently, even allowed to object.

Illegal activity: the illegal activity in question is protesting.  Did you know that Governor Northam of Virginia issued an Executive Order 53 banning gatherings of more than 10 people and that his police?  And you are not allowed to protest that EO under threat of arrest and fines?
