Start with blaming the Trump Administration for all the bad stuff happening. He repeated the lie that the TA had shut down the pandemic response office. The wildly conspiratorial right wing news service called The Washington Post debunked that thoroughly.

When I responded with that rebuttal, he moved on.
He stated on about five occasions that the Chinese government wasn't communist, it was authoritarian, and that was a huge difference. Unfortunately the thread got deleted by someone (probably a moderator from his area since we try to keep it non-political) before I could see how it played out.
It sure must be embarrassing for communists to have to try to defend the record.
- Soviet Union - 61 million
- China - 77 million
- Cambodia - 2.4 million
- Bulgaria - ?
- East Germany - ?
- Romania - ?
- Yugoslavia - ?
- North Korea - ?
What do these countries all have in common, other than killing millions of their own people in gulags and camps? Well, they all claim to have been setting up an ideal society under the tenets of Marxism.
I wonder at what point you accept that if every single instance of a communist state leads to murder on this scale, that communism itself is flawed. Or I suppose you could continue to argue that none of them were "real" communist regimes.
Good luck with that, kid.
